Semester 6

Calculus 2

This course continues the development of differential and integral calculus topics covered in calculus 1. Students develop an understanding of the standard techniques of integration to solve problems involving business applications.

Business Ethics

An introduction to business ethics. Topics discussed are reinforced with an analysis of controversial topics in modern society. 

​

Corporate Social Responsibility

Through the analysis of case studies, students gain an understanding of the importance of corporate ethics and the challenges faced by those in the fashion industry. This analysis also incorporates how a company successfully manages their operations to produce a positive impact on society by integrating social, ethical and environmental concerns with business objectives.

Spanish Conversation 1

Students learn to converse in Spanish with emphasis on the interaction of real-world situations. Functional and practical verbal communications are addressed with a focus where Spanish is spoken.

​

Financial Assortment & Planning

The study of financial and merchandise assortment plans utilizing JDA Enterprise Planning software is covered in this course. Methods used to construct six-month plans that achieve financial goals of specific departments are also discussed.

Semester 5

Calculus 1

Students developed the basic principles of differential calculus and integral calculus. From functions to graphing to maxima-minima problems, the application of business were applied to their work throughout the semester.

Strategies of Business Communications

This course analyzed business situations in order to write effective correspondence, job search materials, reports, and presentations. Students examined the various techniques of business research and documentation as well as developed an understanding of strategies in corporation with technology.

​

Psychology for Sustainability

Students explored the psychological relationship between humans and their natural and built environments to gain insight into environmental problems and generate solutions. Topics included conscious and unconscious influences on human behavior, social norms and influence, the role of contingencies, the neurotoxic effects of pollution, and the psychology of environmental stress.

Leadership Development for Retailing

This course examined the leadership skills inherent to being an effective, efficient manager in the fashion industry today. The effect of an organization's culture on the management process and how it is viewed from a global perspective is learned throughout the semester.

Information Systems Case Analysis

The study of the principles of management information systems (MIS) were examined in this course. With database and spreadsheet tools (Access and Excel), students analyzed current businesses and present solutions in PowerPoint.

Semester 7

Global Merchandising

This course examines the many merchandising practices used worldwide in fashion apparel companies. The American merchandising theory is used as a base of comparison in the consideration of culture, legal systems and other global systems.

Computer-Aided Product Development

Students examine how technology is used to create, merchandise and communicate during each phase of the product development process. This course focuses on the creative phases of product development in terms of trend research; sourcing of color, silhouette and patterns; and assortment planning. Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop are utilized. 

​

Data Analysis for Business Applications

Through the analysis of case studies, students gain an understanding of the importance of corporate ethics and the challenges faced by those in the fashion industry. Semester 8

Merchandising Strategies

This course is the capstone course for B.S. degree students. It integrates the skills and knowledge acquired in previous courses. Students work with teams to research financials, merchandising and competitive data and combine information provided by executives from a sponsored retail organization to create a final presentation.

Mathematical Modeling for Business Applications

Students focus on an analytical approach to business-decision making throughout this course. Topics covered include: finance, cash flow, probability, linear programming and business applications of basic equations.

​

Money and Banking

Reviews the monetary and banking system of the United States with emphasis on its structures and regulations. 

​

Computer-Aided Product Development II

This course applies web-based content and computer applications during the product development process. Students create professional technical packages including bill of materials, construction details, measurement specifications, and cost sheets based on creative content from Computer-Aided Product Development I using Gerber Yunique PLM.
